The Origin of Daffodils in Hillsborough
Founded in 1998, Hillsborough Beautification Foundation began in 2000 honoring Major Donors at a party with hand-delivered invitations accompanied by a pot of blooming daffodils. These were so well received that the Development Committee decided the next fall to plant daffodils in our newly landscaped islands and projects. In September 2001, the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon shocked the nation. A member of the HBF Development Committee, Christina Tan, suggested that we plant the daffodils in memory of those lost in the 9-11 attacks. HBF continues to plants daffodils to honor the fallen, and they have become a symbol of renewal and hope and a continuing identity with Hillsborough Beautification Foundation.
